My Purpose

note: one of the things we noticed in the prison was the bond between the younger men and the older guys...Steven was one of the elder gentlemen and he was just phenomenal like the rest of the elder men in terms of empowering the younger guys and helping them cope with their situations and advising them not to fall into the gang violence and such*Halima

My purpose is to open eyes that are blind
To free captives from prison
And release from the dangerous
Those who sit in the darkness

It doesn’t matter where I come from
It doesn’t matter what damage was done
We’re on a journey, our goal is the same

I used to think freedom meant running away
Love was a feeling that never would stay

I searched my whole life, but never found a big enough shoulder to muffle the sound

So cry if you need to, it might do you do.

Some never make it, some never try, some try and fake it, some barely get by.

Survival is easy; it is living that’s hard

It takes lots of courage to by who are you, so do what you love, not what they say you should.

Please be persistent about changing your life

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence; talents will not,
nothing is more common than unsuccessful men and women with talent

Education alone will not, the world is full of educated derelicts

Life is hard
Life can be impossible
Life is a struggle

We may not get all we pay for in life
But we certainly must pay for all we get

I leave you with this message for the next group that comes along, take my advice

Be recycled and reborn
Chances is a new beginning
A road that’s never ending

Go Home…take care of your kids

Be free

That’s your purpose
