Love seems to be a reoccurring theme
But I dare anyone – anyone to explain to me exactly what it means
Can it be touched, felt, smelt?
Does love have a taste – a face?
If so, what does love taste like
What color are its eyes
Brown, blue, green
If you screamed its name
At the top of your lungs
Would love come
Would it run
Does love have wings, residing amongst the clouds?
Or can it be found in the pages and fables
And if so in books, would I be wrong
To say that love, indeed, has its price
Does love dream
And if so, does it dream of you – maybe me
Wait….does love hate?
Yeah, does love hate?

Poem of the Week # 2 Refugee
They told me
That terrible things happen
But good always outways evil
That love always prevails
And no matter what
Everything is gonna be alright
They told me not to worry
They told me
They are only doing what they were told
For the protectionj of our culture
That certain sacrifices must be made
In order for our people to survive
That certain individuals have betrayed us
And they must be dealt with, accordingly
Things will be said and done
And diabolical acts of justice
Must be enforced
To ensure the prosperity of our nation
But not to worry,
Everything's gonna work out
They told me everything is going to be alright
It was just part of life
They told me
That my father's opinions
Poisoned the roots of our system
That his venomous tongue
Was too sharp for children
So they chopped it off
Like the truth to his innocense
Then without reason
Pertaining to me personally
They kidnapped my father
After he just cooked dinner for me and sister
They took him before they could even take his dignity
And I haven't seen him since then
They told me
That man was not your father
They, they took me
Placed a weapon in my hand
And told me
That the purpose of life
Was to life it
That everyone over their
The same color skin
The same kind of hair
The same eyes, lips and
Everything in between
Will enslave my soul
The minute I give them
Room to breathe
They told me
That blood has the sweet taste of honey
And power taste even better
Murder was the path they gave me to achieve Nirvana
They told me
I was a leader of my people
The same people I've witnessed then rape
With a twinkle in their eye
Like annihilation was a part of my life
They told me
That was a part of life
So, I ran
I ran until my lungs exploded in agony
I ran until my legs disagreed with my spine
And took off by themselves
I ran until I lost their eyes, their voice, and my mind
I ran until I was found
By the woman who manifested my existence
And the other 1/2 of my destiny
My mother and my sister
Now I hear someone telling me
Everything is going to be alright (again)
They are telling me
That safety lies beyond the seas
Without any strings attached
They are telling us
Don't worry, don't worry, don't worry
Be patient and you will soon be there
In paradise
Well, we got here
And they are telling me
The exact same thing
They told me back home....
The world is beautiful
Blood has the sweet taste of honey
And power taste even better
Peace

Poem of the Week # 1 *Imagine that*
In the concrete and steel, who would have thought,
A rose would spring forth, such value, such worth.
Cast out, but not forgotten,
Root were formed though the soil was rotten
A rose would spring forth
Such value, such worth
Rampant mistrust and dreams deferred
Still hope was alive and love nurtured
The rose sprang forth, radiant and alive
A few thrones here and there, but it was destined to survive
A rose sprang forth in the concrete and steel
Value and worth and beauty surreal

Sowing the Seed of Ruination
The carrier of life's
Preoccupation with the world
Has snatched her away
From the ultimate role.
The origin of life
Becomes smudged with toxins,
Inflicting the unarmed
With a habitual need.
Disease infuses
Expanding gray matter,
Permeating the being
Of the soul unknown.
As poisonous provisions
Are cut by separation,
A victimized being
Withdrawals in the world.
On the borderline of
An internal silence,
Strangers' Innovations
Regenerate the inner pulse.

Secrets
Let me find out that
You really do care about people,
that you know the meaning of
faith, hope and love
let me find out that you cry tears
of remorse, regret and that kindness
is not just an appropriate emotion for lames,
but a real expression of friendship.
Let me find out that MOM's SON is really
a sucker for the underdog, a shoulder to lean on
I knew it all along but I never dared to
share the information, to much was at stake,
the legend of Timmie Poole, aka, Big Boy
Who to a select few was really lucky all the time
A paradox, a contradiction in terms, a friend
Who sticks closer than a brother
the truth is finally revealed
In actuality, Big Boy is,...............Momma's Boy!!

Epitaph
New Jack City is what he said,
I didn't understand.
Thirty (30) years later, it's a state of mind.
Getting rich, leaving principles behind.
Money and dames, all part of the game
Call it like you see it, they all were lames.
Love the blind? You pay a price
30 to life sure ain't nice.
New Jack City, a mind set you see
Hustling, getting DOE, "How it used to be."
Prisons are full of dudes from set,
Parole denied, no not yet!!
You clap and enjoy, yell, "kill the pigs."
Truth be toild, the dude was a rat....
New Jack City to Boyz in the Hood,
Black drama depicted, but few who really understood.
Sons and daughters, absentee fathers,
Holding it down, it really don't matter.
Smell the coffee, it's getting late
Death don't have an expiration date.
Bend over, spread 'em, ain't you tired,
Justice is blind, don't even try her.
Too anxious to fail, let impatience rule,
Your headstone will read, "Here lies a Fool!!!"

The Refined Aggression
Coming forth from an unknown depth,
From a pit of deprivation and emptiness,
Raw material for this steel emerged...
It contained elements of love...and hate.
Being forged through the fires of many hells,
The flames infused anger, mistrust, and...
Aggression, into a force of destruction.
This destructiveness was not alone....
Inherent was the trio of happiness,
Trust, and peace – elements of life.
Within this cold steel a battle waged,
Good elements versus bad elements.
But the refining fires of Hades
Raged to destroy what it saw as impurities...
Happiness...trust...peace...life
It became the sword of refined aggression...
A destructive weapon began its reign.
Beneath its sheath, it laid in wait...
For instigation or cause to act -
Then it would strike.
Thoughtlessly justified in its transgression,
It was too furious to feel remorse.
Ironically, this way of life increased its needs...
To be held...to be useful...to be loved...

Success
I've been walking down this road
So long,
When I look at my side
All of my friends are gone
Still got my head in the sky
Success on my mind
Nothing gonna stop me
From getting where I'm going

Nothing Without You
Without the horizon
Would the sun ever set?
Without the seasons of isolation
would a rose ever breathe?
Without the joy of living
Would we ever live?
Without the harmony of Freedom
Would we ever sing?
Without the beauty of poetry
Would we ever write?
What would we write?
"I Luv you"?
"You Luv I"?
"We Luv..."?
Without Luv
Would "WE" have any meaning?
Without I
Would "You" have any meaning?
Without You
Would "I" have any meaning?
Luv would mean nothing without you...
We are nothing without Luv...
I am nothing without You.

Drifting to the Welcoming Crowd
With warm smiles and welcoming arms,
I was lured into the welcoming crowd.
It is in their eyes, I see understanding;
Understanding og me, my past, my life.
In their expression, I recognize my pain;
Suffering I thought only I endured.
They seem like me to their inner core,
Not like the kids from earlier years.
My past experiences they seem to welcome
My traumas they hold dear to their heart.
My search for acceptance is over.
I begin to create my own identity,
In the welcoming crowd where I fit in.
We fight with those who make fun of us,
And do what we think our parents would do.
We live on assumptions and know we are right;
We have found the life that met our impulsive needs...
The friends and faces and wild places.
Fighting',fuckin',and getting' high...
The life we wanted 'til the day we die!
Oh so many come and go,
As often and free as the breeze,
They always stop to share a smile
With just the slightest ease.

Rise
Bury beneath the earth
With my eyes
Piercing the sky
Seeking
The destination
Of my destiny
Seems externally to obtain
For the comfort
Of my soul
In journey
Seeking salvation
All trials and tribulations
Embracing each root
Climbing to reach the surface
Thru all obstacles
There I stood
Tall as ever
There I stood
Overseeing the valleys
Of my struggles
I grew forth from with
The burden of the world upon
My back
Still – I was able
To rise
Yes! Still I was able
To rise
Stronger than ever
I rise
I rise
Stronger than ever
I rise!!!

Cosby Kid
It was the eviction notices,
The kicks with holes in 'em
Only three outfits and chicks were noticing 'em
The streets offered me love, how could I say no to it
I became somebody quick
And was so proud of it,
Started to feel like a Cosby Kid.

Haikus from Mike Perry
Build a prayer,
from a prison cell,
the depth of love,
I know so well.
Momma said, no not yet
to a whispered regret.
In shallow minds words erode,
small packaged dreams seldom
EXPLODED.
Touch a memory
back space erase
10 to 30, what a waste.
Helpers Who Need the Help
Puzzle masters in their own right,
They piece together fractured minds;
Years of schooling prepared them for this -
To sift through the scattered pieces;
Yet some fail to sift through my own.
Their imperfections and frailties,
Uncollected and corrupted pieces,
Become known through unscrupulous acts;
Acts that have befallen me,
Leaving my mind even more fragmented.
Instead of helping me collect my pieces,
They've scattered my pieces even more;
I was strewn about and incomplete
How could they have taken this role...?
The role of decency they couldn't even fulfill!!!
Mortally wounded by a role abused,
I was unable to receive the help I needed;
Unable to display a completed puzzle,
The empty spaces were filled with madness;
Madness that went forth into the world....

The Abusive Hands of Neglect
Beating hands thunderously smack
Against the flesh of a newborn;
It seems any chance he'll surely lack
Emerging in a body that's war torn.
Born into this he was cursed to be;
It seems no blessings he'd ever see.
Before one year, he's inched to death;
He'd almost breath his last breath.
Internal blood gushed around
Inside the battered baby;
His psyche issues were abound,
Seizing hold of the baby.
Born into this he was cursed to be;
It seems no blessings he'd ever see.
Before one year, he's inched to death;
He'd almost breath his last breath.
Returning to where he first saw light,
He's once again with strangers.
Their gifted hands made him right,
But couldn't keep him from dangers.
Born into this he was cursed to be;
It seems no blessing he'd ever see.
Before one year, he's inched to death;
He'd almost breath his last breath.

What is man?
What is man?
Is the most propose questions ever asked
So... who is he
To be respectful of
To be honored, admired – loved
Look upon as
Husbands, fathers
Brothers & friends
TO be provider, teacher, the protector
Of the garden
Is he to be just
Charitable, benevolent
Consistent with being sincere while
Upholding the dignity
Of his very existence
Is it we ( you & I)
Who actually exemplify the qualification of man
Hmmm... I ponder
As we allow ourselves to be dictated
By our uncontrolled passions
So blindly we are
Obsessed with our image
For we're so self – conscious
Are we not vain
Caught up in an illusion – the game
Cee, Its all a game we play
Seeking the glory, its fame
Living an pernicious life
Driven by greed
You know, a condition we fantasize for
The power, the wealth and the conquest of her
Yes! Beautiful her
“The World”
Queen of humanity
Though we abused, mistreat
As if she isn't the mother of we
Mother of man
So who is man?
That neglect the moment of defining self
for we masquerade out inner feelings
Ignoring the voice within
Such foolish pride
Believing the man don't
Cry tears nor should be sensitive
Damn!!!
We're so out of touch with self
The actions of our soul
Misguided of the lack of knowledge we
Possess of self
Know man was created in the light of Greatness
Created King the Thinker
Sustainer of his fate
Yes! Man is
To be respectful, honorable, dependable
Modest
Honest to himself & others
Man has integrity, dignity
He's trustworthy of his innate duty
Purpose – goals & aspirations
Man is phenomenal
Inspirational one
Who encourage the best in others
He is triumphant in his actions
Persistent, passionate
Fuel by persevering' thru life
Continuous struggles
Yes! Man is
Steadfast in his belief
Stand firm in his faith...

Fireplace in my heart
I wanted you to know
That your portrait hangs over
The fireplace in my heart
I go there often
When you're not around
I sit and I stare at the
Beauty of your heavenly design
I love it there
I feel a warm and secure comfort
In these timeless moments
Hours may pass by
And I will never even notice.

2nd Chances
In the life we life, it will seem
2nd chances only comes seldom
A blessing that's rarely noticeable
From an delusional perspective
When accustom to a life
Living with no hope
Suffocated by fear
Provoke by anger
While regulated by unexpressed
Feelings – Pain & Rage
Suffering thru the pressures
Of the life styles we've chosen
Addicted to the fast lane
Enticed by its affinity
The wild fantasies of money, power, respect
All we pursuit
In drug dealing, murder & mayhem
Its the motivation
Succumbing to all temptations
Numbing the pain
Blowing weed, popping pills
Driking lac
Whatever it takes
To escape ------------------ Reality
With the belief : life is a curse
As if we were born
Not to make it
Not to excel
So is it right!!
Perpetuating a destructive path
Negating the fact
There will come a time
Blinded no more
By the veil covering our vision
Now, we can envision with grand
Hope by the possibilities to activate
The greatness submerge
Deep within -----Self
For if our thoughts
Don't have purpose
Than our purpose is thoughtless
To properly planning
A persistent positive path
Leading to our destiny
While diverting from a life of prediction
