Halima

I think you have grown even more for coming
To a place like this
But, I speak for all of us, your kindness
We will all miss
Just know as life may take you on
A road that is long
Hold your head up high and smile
Know that you are strong
Don’t let anyone take from you the truth
That you hold dear
Your belief in your faith shows
A world and its clear
I knew the first day I saw you and
Your willingness to dress
Don’t let anyone give you any flack
Or even suppress
Be who and what you are even
To your own demise
Because you know where and what
Beyond the blue skies
As we took this adventure of our
Spirit and of mind
Ishmael , the book we read
Some the truth they didn’t find
So just know that when you walk
Through this life with a smile
You help others get past their own lack
Even to the last mile
I look forward to seeing you again
Sometime soon
As we go through books
Within this room

This I write to you in grace, until I see your happy face.

Angels of God

They show up in different ways
They watch and guard us all our days
Yamu, Kris, Sarah, Farid in life many a thing, for His love
They want us to sing
Angels are all around you
Ones you don’t see
But they see you through
Be careful because they could be anywhere
This is how God shows his love and care
It was you all that we’ve discovered
It’s not something we can’t see it’s each other.

My anger

When I have yelled in anger
My face turns a blazing red
I have always said something
That I would wish I hadn’t said
When I have lost my temper
I have lost all reason too
I am not proud of nothing
That I angrily do
In my anger I have never done
A good deed or its wise
But things which I know I should apologize
As I look back across my life
All of the thing that I have lost or made
It’s hard to recall anytime
When my anger ever paid

Birmingham Alabama

Note: This poem is about our first book discussion The Watsons Go to Birmingham, 1963 by author Christopher Paul Curtis...This book was written from a child's perspective and it basically explored the racial hatred of that era...The four names mentioned in this poem are four little girls who were murdered simply because of their skin color.

It was a warm there in Birmingham Alabama
The sites were like that of a Panorama
The Watson’s went there on a trip
Because their oldest was too cool and hip
While they were there something bad took place
All because someone didn’t like a certain race
Four little girls were murdered that day
In a little church where they went to pray
Addie, Denise, Carole and Cynthia are now in God’s hands,
We shouldn’t have had this happen in our land
I know how it feels like to lose a child you love
To let them go, to their home above
What you feel really never goes away
The hurt, sadness and anger in your mind to stay
I hope we’ve learned from this tragedy
And we never repeat such stupidity
