Written

I know it's wrong that you're sinning
But pop and mom were on their binjis
And I had to feed our siblings
I told Allah you'd be back when I'm finish
I had to get a quick run in
And it should only take a minute
It's been 17 years since I said it
We'd be in and out of prison
But can't regret it
Because all of it was written.

A Shattered Reflection

Question:
If you caught the image of a man
Fading in a shattered mirror
Like a shadow pursuing
The sight of sunset
After it rains,
What do you do?

How do you explain his reflection battered
Due to someone else
Who threw stones at that mirror
Not you...

But it's you who stand there
Staring at the broken image of a man
Fading like our thoughts before we sleep...
Like our dreams when we awake...
Dreams -
I had a dream
A dream that the moisture
From a mother's tears
Rusted the metal
Welded to the frame
Of this broken mirror
That the fire
Ignited by the lighters
Found in the pockets
Of dissatisfied fighters
Scorched the facists rope
Constraining our wrists
Far beyond captivity
But are we free?

Then why do we stand there
Staring at the broken image of a man
Fading with the sincerity
Of tomororrow's history?
Is it misery that comforts us
When fear approaches us?
Well, I'm sorry Misery.
I'm sorry that you put in
So much effort
Towards the demise
Of opportunity
You see, the unjust tragedy
You shot for
Shot back
And today's judical class classifies
Your sudden death
As troubled suicide
But, both you and I know
That most of the time
Most of the truth
Is consumed by just a few lies.
So, how do you revive the eyes
That have been fading in a shattered mirror,
Like the worn out soul
Of old, grumpy shoes?

How do you convince him
That his face is not white,
Nor the color of his body black?
But instead, it was the soil,
As rich as the heart of Assata,
That identified the people
Who cultivated life
When all hopes were lost
Understand, it was never the hands
But rather the land
That was black
Wayback before any
of the people were kidnapped
But somehow, someway
These people obtained
The name black
A name that gave them identity
When all hopes were lost
Now look deep into that mirror
And tell me
Tell me how you will tell him
That his ancestors were called niggers
Because through ignominious nascent
Some genius decided that
They were all ignorant
But then after so many generations
of dedication and benevolence
He decides to take pride in calling himself nigga
As a result of his own ignorance
As a result of being born blind
In a rich man's world
Where poverty's been the easiest way
To make money.
Where popularity defines morality
And spiritual spooks become reality
Nevertheless, he still fades.

Like the tears of time
Pieces of his existence
Will fall from eternity
Crying will not help him
No, crying will not save him from fading
Eventually, disappearing
From the distored reflection
In a shattered mirror.
So, what do you do?

If it was me,
I'd fix the mirror
But leave the cracks.

The Friction of Noncompliance

Through pits of grave!
And shards of glass,
My rebellion has dragged me through.
My cries are stifled by conscious regret -
How could I...
How could I have done this to myself?!?!
The friction created
By my choiches in life
Have ripped my body apart!
Why couldn't I hear...
Hear what they were trying to say.
They uttered more than just words!
They expressed their pain!
Their suffering!
Results of their poor choiches;
Their mistakes
That I now relive
So they're not my parents
They're still people with life experiences.
I should have learned from their mistakes,
But I chose not to.
Now the friction and sting from my error
Has tenderized not only my body,
But also my soul.
So many errors..so many mistakes...
How can I still exist?

Time

Does time have a beginning
Then when will it begin
Will it ever come time
When time come
To a friend

When will it come A
Time for my time
To end would
It be
Before it even begin

Time waits for no one
Never did
Never will
The odds and time is against
Me so I have
No time to squander

I learned time never
Was when man
Was not
So I have the time to
Perfect myself

Though in that time
I succor someone
Who didn't give the
Time to themelves
Would I be killing
Time all in itself

Time is truly time
That's not on
Ourside
To waste

Some would say
Time is money...
Than time would
Surely be mines
If I had the
Time to spend.

This can't be happening

This can't be happening...
Temptations are cunning
When loyalty is stranded
Words have been sacrificed
For your own thoughts to be branded
Suppressing our purpose
Only punctuates damage

This can't be happening...

The wind was once my love
Not ashamed to kiss my tears
What forced her to change course
Has always been so unclear
Whenever she's headed
I will forever be here

This can't be happening...

Roses fall in season
With their pedals left behind
But every so often
A rose dies before its time
Listen to the flowers
Sing mournfully as they cry

This can't be happening...
This can't be happening...
This can't be happening...

Paralyzed by possibility

When "what if" never came true
Do I spend most of my day thinking about what is
So is it "what if" or what is?
This must be a mental pattern is acquired by frequent repetition
Dealing with the future and not the present
I must think many of my troubles and created by someone else, “that must be what is”
but "what if"?
Many of them are created by me playing God
In a sense...
If I covered all the possibilties.
I could avoid the outcome I feared the most: “failure”
Do I want what is, total control.
Yes, no,
Dealing with "what if's" is dealing with
My what is
I am not God.

Nine Messages of Love

When everything is wrong
I'm what is right
When life is dark
Look to me for light
Don't be blind
Can't you see
I move mountains that you climb
Don't fight the feeling, just let it be
I want to be by your side in your nights
Everyday.
Don't ignore the miracle, just let it be
Things happen for a reason can't you see
I believe in fate, but I'm patient, so I wait
Allah willing he's gonna send me the perfect mate
So you see – I'm the reflection of your mind
The food that you hunger for
The cold water that you drink when you dehydrate
It's the air you breath after a long day of hardship
Looking for the words to express what to say
It is the chair that you sit in the comfort in that special way
It is the mother who first sees her child when she's first born
It is explosive as an atom bomb
Stirring, arousing, it is as real as the blue sky
As fresh as the autumn night
It is like that new outfit that you like so much
It is like that new car with those fresh leather smelling seals
Its you and me by the sea
Embraced by the elements
Yeah, this shit unique

A Dream Deferred

A dream deffered is still
A dream alive and well in the hearts of its carrier
Periodically making a camoe in the lives of its siblings.
